Introduction to the chemistry of complex systems

Introduction to the chemistry of complex systems (6 credits)
Prof. Umberto Anselmi Tamburini
The study of complex systems experienced a huge growth in the last few decades, allowing the rationalization of several peculiar behavior observed in systems that are made by a collection of simple elements interacting through non-linear relationship. The class will present an introduction to the theory of these complex systems with particular attention to chemical and biological applications. The analysis of the conditions driving to the formation of temporal (oscillations and chaos) and spatial (patterns) instabilities will be initially presented. These approaches will then be generalized showing how they can be used to analyze complex systems in fields beyond chemistry.
